40 Days for Life Update

Shawn Carney, 40 Days for Life

During the just-completed 40 Days for Life campaign, two more abortion centers where 40 Days for Life campaigns were conducted shut down for good … bringing the total number of closed abortion facilities to 59!

Also during this campaign, six more workers had a change of heart and quit the abortion industry … bringing the total number of workers who have quit to 107!

Two hundred ninety seven cities around the world participated in the 40 Days For Life Campaign this fall.

40 Days for Life is now able to move its headquarters into the former Planned Parenthood abortion center in Bryan/College Station, Texas — where 40 Days for Life first began.

Senate GOP Elects Pro-Life Mitch McConnell Leader, Promises 5-Month Abortion Ban

by Steven Ertelt | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com

Fresh from their overwhelming victory on Election Day, handing them control of the Senate over pro-abortion Democrats led by Harry Reid, Senate Republicans have unanimously elected pro-life Senator Mitch McConnell as their leader.

McConnell, hailing from Kentucky, has promised the Senate will vote on a House-passed bill that bans abortions after 5 months because scientific research shows unborn children can feel pain at that point in pregnancy.

The Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act: bans abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy and would save at least 18,000 lives a year. McConnell previously pledged that if his party won the majority, he would advance a vote on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. The legislation is supported by the majority of Americans – women in higher numbers than men.

Parents Reject Abortion of One Twin, Save Both Babies

by Heidi Miller | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com

Last night I came across an interview with Mr. and Mrs. Ryman, parents of Byron and Lincoln Ryman, two sweet, relatively healthy identical twin boys. Their story is too precious not to share.

Mrs. Ryman’s pregnancy was far from easy. After she finally got pregnant through in vitro fertilization, it was discovered that the babies were not growing at the same rate, due to twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome. Byron was getting most of the nutrition and was three times the size of Lincoln.

The Rymans were given two options by the doctors: to continue the pregnancy of both twins, or to abort Lincoln in hopes of saving Byron. According to Mr. Ryman, the latter wasn’t an option: “I don’t think we even thought about it. We just said straightaway, ‘No we didn’t want to do that.’ … It was something I don’t think either of us really considered doing. We just couldn’t do it.”

“We were actually given the option to terminate Lincoln in the beginning, but thank God we didn’t,” Mrs. Ryman said. “I wanted two babies not one.”

Laser surgery was preformed to help correct the problem. The doctor believed that it was a “brave and tough decision to deliver both of the babies. And they made the right decision.”

Byron was born weighing 3 lbs, 6 oz, while his brother Lincoln weighed a light 1 lb 3 oz. Lincoln was only the size of his mother’s hand. The journey has not been without its struggles. Lincoln spent the first five months of his life in the hospital. He was two when he ate his own food instead of being fed through a feeding tube. But Mr. and Mrs. Ryman persevered.

“I honestly thought that we would have two boys with quite a lot of medical issues. But they are actually two fairly normal boys. I’m really proud of them.” Mrs. Ryman.

In a world that has a “convenience” mindset, these two parents fought the odds. The doctors did not think that both boys would live, much less live and be healthy. The Rymans didn’t take the “convenience” option and are blessed because of it.

“We are lucky to have them, like really lucky to have them.”

Pro-Life Group Will Honor Meriam Ibrahim, Sentenced to Death for Her Christian Faith

by Steven Ertelt | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com

A pro-life group will honor Meriam Ibrahim, a Christian woman whose faith resulted in a Sudanese court almost putting her to death. The young woman was condemned to be executed while she was pregnant with an unborn child, who was subsequently born while she remained in prison.

Meriam Ibraham, the pregnant Christian woman jailed and sentenced to be flogged and hanged for her Christian faith, was eventually forced to give birth in chains in a Sudanese prison as she awaited a death sentence ad brutal flogging by Muslim officials.

“Meriam’s bold stand for Jesus Christ as she faced death has touched the hearts of people in every nation. Her incredible example of courage should inspire Christians in America to be bold and courageous in their faith as we witness growing religious hostility here in our country.”

“Meriam honored God by standing strong in her faith despite imprisonment and a death sentence. Our hope and prayer is that Meriam’s story will be shared as an encouragement to the thousands of Meriams who are looking toward America, hoping they are not forgotten and that someone will speak out on their behalf,” concluded Perkins.

Statement on State Licensing Complaints against Four Indiana Abortion Doctors

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller’s office announced that the state has lodged complaints with the Indiana Medical Licensing Board over legal violations allegedly committed by four Indiana abortion doctors. The announcement states that the violations relate to abortion record keeping and advice and consent laws. The doctors are Ulrich Klopfer, who runs abortion facilities in Lake, St. Joseph and Allen Counties, and Resad Pasic, Kathleen Glover and Raymond Robinson, all of Marion County. Indiana Right to Life President and CEO Mike Fichter released the following statement:

“We commend the Attorney General for taking this necessary step to uphold Indiana law. Our legislators passed laws regarding consent and record keeping to ensure high standards of quality and care for Hoosier women. We’re disappointed that these abortion doctors apparently did not willingly comply with Indiana law. We hope the Medical Licensing Board immediately schedules hearings. If found guilty, we believe the abortion doctors should be fined and their licenses to practice in Indiana should be revoked.”

Indiana Right to Life’s mission is to protect the right to life, especially of unborn children, through positive education, compassionate advocacy and promotion of healthy alternatives to abortion.

INTERNATIONAL END-OF-LIFE NEWS: SWITZERLAND, AUSTRALIA, GREAT BRITAIN UPDATES

[SOURCE: 8/18/14 – Charlotte Lozier Institute]

SWITZERLAND: Exit, a Swiss assisted suicide organization, reported last week an increased growth in its membership this summer. According to the group’s vice president, a record number of new applicant requests (between 60-100 daily) came in this July and August. Exit’s membership stands at about 75,000. Of those, 459 ended their lives last year with the organization which provides the lethal drugs …

Switzerland legalized assisted suicide in 1942. Last May, Exit amended its policy to “assist” not only the terminally ill but also elderly people regardless of their state of health.

AUSTRALIA: Another prescribed death organization, Exit International, has come under fire. Its founder, international euthanasia activist Dr. Philip Nitschke, lost his medical license after admitting he helped a non-terminally-ill 45-year-old man commit suicide. He plans to appeal his suspension, maintaining his work does not constitute “medical practice.”

GREAT BRITAIN: Great Britain has been considering Lord Falconer’s Assisted Dying Bill to legalize assisted suicide for mentally competent adults with a 6-month-or-less life expectancy. The debate garnered an equal split between advocates and opponents during debate this summer. The bill goes to committee, likely this fall.

HUMAN RIGHTS NEWS

On Monday, a judge ruled that late-term abortionist Martin Haskell had to close his abortion clinic for good. Haskell was given five days to appeal the judge’s ruling. Operation Rescue has revealed that Haskell’s attorneys have decided not to file an appeal, meaning that the clinic will close permanently, with surgical abortions to end tomorrow.

Isabella Was Conceived Six Years Ago, She is a Gift From God Not a Product of Rape

by Bryan Kemper | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com | 9/25/14isabella

Once in a while we get random people contacting us because they live locally and want to come by the office to get a t-shirt. When Lauran came in with Isabella I could not help but smile. Isabella is such a beautiful young lady who lights up any room. You would never know that such a little princess is a rare survivor of a culture who would actually tell her mom that she would be better off having her “terminated.”

The world would call Isabella a product of rape. President Obama would refer to her as a “punishment.” Planned Parenthood would say she was nothing more then a blob of tissues and happily dispose of her for several hundred dollars.

call Isabella a child of God, His heritage. I want to share with you Isabella and Lauran’s story of courage and healing. The next time you hear someone say they are against abortion except in cases of rape, think about little Isabella and understand that she is a child, not an exception.

Read what Lauran and Isabella both have to say:

Lauran

I was your ordinary girl, ready to start my senior year in high school. And like most high school girls I was thinking about things like Friday night football games, which college I would get into, and finishing off the year walking across the stage getting my hard earned diploma. Making choices that only affected me. Little did I know, there was someone out there thinking only of himself and about to make a selfish choice that was going to affect me for the rest of my life . . .

Pro-Life or Life-Affirming?

Rev. Dr. James Lamb, Life Date, Summer 2014

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the most life-affirming message in the universe! There is nothing “political” about the biblical truth that life is created and gifted by God from the moment of conception. There is nothing “controversial” about the biblical truth that God loves the life He created so much that in order to pay the price to buy humanity back from sin and death, He was conceived in a womb so that He could suffer, die, and rise again. And remember, He suffered and died for every human life no matter how small or condition of health. There is nothing “social” about the biblical truth that God desires to call every human being through the waters of Baptism into an eternal relationship with Him. There is nothing “divisive” about the biblical truth that we are compelled to share the life-affirming message of the Gospel and apply it to the matters of the heart the people in the pews at our churches struggle with in their lives (See my article on page 3.)

What all this means is that, as Christians, we are not just pro-life because we live in a culture that isn’t. We affirm life because we serve a God who does. Certainly we want laws changed so that life is affirmed. We want life-affirming people representing us in government. But before there can be meaningful changes in laws or people, hearts must change. That’s what the Gospel does! That’s what we have to share. That’s why we affirm life!

What does that look like in a congregation? It means that instead of being “anti-abortion,” we affirm the life of the unborn and speak up for them. It means that instead of just teaching our young people to abstain from sex until marriage, we affirm their lives and teach them about purity and making good choices that flow from the purity given them in Christ. It means we neither condemn the unmarried pregnant teen nor condone the sin. We affirm her life, the life of the father, and the life of their child and do everything we can to help them. It means we do not condemn the broken hearted who have sinned against life. Rather we affirm their lives and share God’s means of grace and the love and forgiveness that flow through them richly and daily. It means we affirm the lives of the infirm and dying and point them to the meaning and purpose that God gives to life as long as He gives life.

Ben Carson: We Called Ancient Civilizations Heathens Because They Sacrificed Babies, But We Abort Them

by Steven Ertelt | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com | 8/6/14 4:24 PM bencarson4

Dr. Ben Carson has a way of putting things in perspective that endears him to pro-life activists. The neurosurgeon and the author of six best-selling books makes another compelling point about the issue of abortion that is sure to have everyone who opposes abortion concurring.

He pointed out how ancient civilizations have been criticized for the brutal practices of human sacrifice and child sacrifice — but he wonders if modern society isn’t “guilty of the same thing” because we have legalized abortion.

“Well, it’s interesting that we sit around and call other ancient civilizations heathen because of human sacrifice, but aren’t we actually guilty of the same thing?” said Dr. Carson in reference to a question about abortion. “The good thing is the American populace is moving closer and closer to understanding that abortion is murder. Every year we’re getting better in that regard.”

Indiana’s 2013 Abortion Rate Continues Downward Trend

INDIANAPOLIS – An analysis of recently released abortion figures for 2013 by the Indiana State Department of Health shows the abortion rate continues on a downward trend. In 2013, there were 8,027 abortions in Indiana, compared to 2012’s rate of 8,808, or an 8.9 percent drop.

The abortion figures show that 2013 marked the fifth consecutive year of drops in the statewide abortion rate. Last year’s 8,027 abortions also mark a more than 50 percent drop in abortions since the all-time high of 16,505 abortions in 1980. Last year was the lowest number of abortions in Indiana since 1975, or one year after the U.S. Supreme Court legalized abortion nationwide.

“We are encouraged that the number of abortions in Indiana continues to drop, but we mourn the loss of 8,027 unborn boys and girls,” stated Mike Fichter, President and CEO of Indiana Right to Life. “We look forward to the day when the abortion rate is zero. Until then, we will continue to work with our partners in the pro-life community to provide positive alternatives for women facing unplanned or complicated pregnancies. Women don’t need to feel like abortion is their only option; thousands of Hoosiers are ready to provide support to both mother and child during pregnancy and after birth.”

Pennsylvania Enacts Law to Provide Moms-To-Be with Evidence-Based Information about Down Syndrome

PA Senator Vukovich’s Press Release, “Chloe’s Law Now Act 130 of 2014”; 7/29/14 – NRL News Today

“Chloe’s Law” ensures greater access to available help.

On July 18, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett signed into law the “Down Syndrome Prenatal and Postnatal Education Act” (otherwise known as “Chloe’s Law”).

Pennsylvania became the 7th state to implement legislation intended to provide factual and supportive information to new and expectant parents who receive the prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome to obtain the support and education needed to care for and enhance the quality of life for their child.

The legislation passed on a rare bipartisan vote, 50-0 in the Senate and 196-4 in the House.

The bill was named after Chloe Kondrick, an 11-year-old child with Down syndrome, who became the inspiration of the measure. Shortly after Chloe’s parents discovered her condition, they devoted themselves to early intervention efforts to help her physical and mental development.

Under the Act, Pennsylvania’s Department of Health will make available up-to-date, evidence-based information about Down Syndrome that has been reviewed by medical experts and national Down Syndrome organizations. The information will include physical, developmental, educational and psychosocial outcomes; life expectancy; clinical course; intellectual and functional development; treatment options. It will also include contact information for First Call programs, support services, hotlines specific to Down Syndrome, relevant resource centers, clearinghouses and national and local Down Syndrome organizations.

“Man’s Best Schemes”

Pastor Ken Klaus / Daily Devotions / Lutheran Hour Ministries / July 29, 2014

The Law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether. Psalm 19:7-9

It was the Scottish poet, Robert Burns, who wrote, “The best-laid schemes o’ mice an’ men Gang aft agley, An’ lea’e us nought but grief an’ pain, For promis’d joy!” It was his simple way of saying humankind makes grand plans, but the benefits often fall far short of what had been promised.

Burns’ poem also provides an adequate summary of a recent presentation made by Professor Theo Boer to England’s House of Lords. The topic was “the legalization of euthanasia” and the Dutch scholar shared why he had gone from supporting, to opposing, euthanasia.

Boer said that, in 2007, when euthanasia became allowable in the Netherlands, he and his colleagues thought they had crafted a pretty solid plan. Since then, having followed more than 4,000 cases, Boer says their best laid schemes have gang agley (gone wrong.) Some of the major points of Dr. Boer’s speech were the following:

1. Assisted suicides are occurring more frequently among those who are lonely, older, bereaved, who have psychiatric problems or dementia. Boer added, “Some of these patients could have lived for years or decades.”

2. Public opinion about euthanasia is changing. He says tremendous pressure is being placed on doctors by individuals and family members who seem to think relatives are disposable.

3. The numbers of assisted suicides are rising 15 percent annually.

In conclusion, Dr. Boer observed, “Once the genie is out of the bottle, it is not likely to ever go back in again ….” and then he urged, “Don’t repeat our mistake.”

The doctor has given some good advice.

Although he didn’t speak in theological terms, Dr. Boer recognizes it’s all too easy for one sin to lead to another, and then to another, and to yet another. In America we removed the religious moral compass from our children and now we are shocked when some sad soul murders his classmates. We removed morality from our youngster’s education, and we are surprised to see high schoolers “sexting.”

It is tragic to see what occurs anytime humankind thinks it knows better than, and can improve upon, the Lord’s directives. Far better for individuals, families, and all who are in authority, to look to the Lord for guidance and direction. Nobody knows what is better for us than the Lord who has created, redeemed, calls and keeps us.

This is why we say we can do no better than to listen to the Lord. After all, the alternative is “The best-laid schemes o’ mice an’ men Gang aft agley, An’ lea’e us nought but grief an’ pain, For promis’d joy!”

THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, how sad You must be to see the world never learns. Your ways are best. How disappointed You must be when humankind disregards the Savior and tries to save itself. May we, Your adopted children, do better. In Jesus’ Name I ask it. Amen.
