October Baby

October Baby Pro-Life Movie Makes Top 10 in Opening Weekend: After a resounding success in a limited release, October Baby premiered nationally on Friday. The movie has received strong support from the pro-life community — drawing rave reviews and it received strong support from the public — despite the premier of other top films.

Although much of the media focus for the weekend centered on the premier of “The Hunger Games” and second week of “21 Jump Street,” October Baby cracked the top 10 in its first full weekend of release. The pro-life movie received about $1.7 million on only 390 screens for a ninth place finish, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com. Had the movie been screened in more locations, it would have done better — as evidenced by its $4,405 per screen haul, the third highest screen average of the weekend.

I Don’t Like When People Call Me Retarded: My friend David has Down Syndrome. God made him different from me, but we’re all different from each other in some way. If God made everybody the same then life would be boring. One out of every one thousand babies is born with Down Syndrome. They have physical, mental, and social challenges that range from mild to severe. People with Down Syndrome may also have a shortened attention span and difficulty learning. When David was born his mother asked the doctor, “what should I do with him?” the doctor said, “just take him home and love him”.

David lives with a foster family since both of his parents have died. He has his own bedroom and keeps it very clean. His caregiver says that he has only a few faults and is otherwise a great person, which can really be said about most everyone. He used to have a job but his feet hurt, his legs got tired, and had to rest a lot, so now he goes to adult daycare every day.

David’s parents died over ten years ago and he still hurts deep down inside and thinks about them every day. He feels very lonely in life since most of his close relatives have passed away, however he finds strength from his church and his friends, like me. He has a very funny sense of humor and is easy to be around even though he stutters a bit when he talks. He has very good manners and likes a lot of the things that I like: movies, television, and ice cream. David likes to participate in the Special Olympics Bowling Tournament.

40 Days for Life: Day 29

Posted By on March 23, 2012

Dear Carolyn,

A few days ago I mentioned that this is the time during the 40 Days for Life campaign where we see abortion workers’ hearts begin to change …

… and now we know of employees who are leaving the abortion industry.

In fact, there have been FIVE of them!

I can’t disclose the campaigns — I’m told there are others who are also considering leaving, and any publicity could only add to the pressure these people are currently facing.

One abortion worker met prayer volunteers at the 40 Days for Life vigil outside and said with a smile: “This is my last day in this hell hole!”

It is not a cliche to say that ending abortion is about hearts and minds — it’s a reality. Praise God
for these victories … and keep praying for all abortion center workers.

BABIES SAVED!
——————————————————

Here’s another story where for privacy reasons, I can’t give you the location. But we know of a woman who visited an abortion center to set up an appointment. 40 Days for Life volunteers in the public right-of-way outside prayed for her as she walked into the building.

Inside the abortion facility, she was given an ultrasound exam. When a staff member saw the image, she suggested that the woman NOT have an abortion.

Yes, that’s right. The person who performed the exam recommended AGAINST an abortion … because the ultrasound clearly showed TWINS.

The mother’s next stop was a pro-life pregnancy center. She still needs prayer — the twins’ father remains set on abortion. And of course, please pray for that employee as well.

BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND
——————————————————

The 40 Days for Life team in Birmingham marked the middle of the campaign with a Walk for Life through the streets of the city.

“It was the first time such an event had ever been organised in this city and we were overjoyed by the response we received,” said Aline in Birmingham. “There was a crowd of about a hundred people, some of whom came from a distance to witness to life in a town which hosts two abortion centres, one of which is one of the biggest in Europe.”

The day started with rain, a temperature around freezing — and heavier rain in the forecast. “As we always do when things are beyond our control, we left it all in God’s hands and once again, the sun broke out just a couple of minutes before we set off,” she said.

Shoppers were amazed at the sight of people walking, praying, singing hymns. Many people took pictures. And, Aline said, “there was no sign of hostility.”

The event ended with two minutes of silence in memory of the 7 million children aborted since Britain legalized abortion in 1967.

“Finally, as if to show us that the sunshine was all of  God’s making, the rain poured down on us afterwards and there were even hailstones.” All in all, Aline said, “what we saw was very encouraging.”

DAY 29 INTENTION
——————————————————

We pray for the grace to be strong when others ridicule or oppose us.

——————————————————
SCRIPTURE
——————————————————

Anyone who does not take up his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.
–Luke 14:27

——————————————————
REFLECTION by Fr. Frank Pavone, Priests for Life
——————————————————

To stand up for what is right means we stand against what is wrong, and that means that those who love what is wrong will oppose us, just as they opposed Christ. Taking up the cross means we continue speaking and standing for the right even when that opposition comes.

We experience this, in particular, when we are out on the streets, where people are not expecting the pro-life message and where they did not go to hear it. We must remember to never take the opposition personally.

When people ridicule or yell at us, we might get a guilty feeling or be tempted to think we did something wrong. We did not.

The insults are not being hurled at us personally, but rather at the truth of what we are standing for, and at the demands of the moral law.

There are many who are trying to run away from those demands, or who have managed to tuck the abortion problem away into a distant corner of their minds where it can no longer disturb them.

By standing publicly for the cause of life, we have short-circuited that denial and frustrated those
efforts to ignore the issue. Therefore, some will be angry, perhaps not fully realizing why.

——————————————————
PRAYER
——————————————————

Lord, thank you for the grace of being pro-life, and of standing strong when others may ridicule or oppose me.

During this 40 Day campaign, may your peace fill my soul, especially when I may endure the opposition of others, and may I become more like your crucified and risen Son. Amen.

Unforgettable Words

Posted By on March 23, 2012

March 21st was World Down Syndrome Day. Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb wrote the following:

I remember her words as if it were yesterday. In actuality, however, it was several years ago at our LFL conference in St. Louis, Missouri. We introduced a new version of our For Life promotional video. Mikki, a child with Down syndrome, and her mother were featured in the video. When the diagnosis was made before Mikki was born, her mom received a great deal of pressure to abort. She chose life!

We invited Mikki and her parents to the conference where we showed the video for the first time. After the viewing, we asked Mikki if she would like to say anything to the gathering of over 300 people. She readily took the microphone and spoke those unforgettable words, “Thanks for giving kids like me a chance.” To a standing ovation, she returned to her seat.

LFL stands today to salute all the “Mikki’s” and their families out there. We share what we hear over and over again from parents of Down syndrome children—they are such a BLESSING!

LFL stands today (World Down Syndrome Day) to salute all those who advocate for these children. We honor those who uphold the value of life knowing it does not come from our abilities or how our chromosomes are arranged but from our God who created us and redeemed us in Jesus. So please take personally those unforgettable words, “Thanks for giving kids like me a chance.”

Indiana Right to Life statement on Komen Foundation decision to resume funding for abortion business Planned Parenthood -February 3, 2012: Indiana Right to Life President and CEO Mike Fichter issued this statement today regarding the Komen Foundation’s decision to continue funding for current Planned Parenthood grants: “We are profoundly disappointed at the Komen decision to continue funding for the nation’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood. We do not believe it is in the best interest of the Komen Foundation, breast cancer research, and the lives of women to engage in partnership with an organization that has abortion at the core of its business, and that refuses to inform women of the numerous studies showing an elevated risk of breast cancer as a result of induced abortion. It is our understanding that Komen events in Evansville, Terre Haute, Indianapolis and Fort Wayne have not provided any local funding to Planned Parenthood over the last several years. We will work with these Komen affiliates to assure that this will continue to be the case, and that they will encourage the national Komen Foundation to deny any future grant applications from Planned Parenthood on the national level.”
